Florida Trooper hit by Drunk Driving Suspect

Destin. Fla. – The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a road accident in which Florida Trooper Lester Abreu got injured.
On Friday night, Trooper Lester Abreu was conducting field sobriety tests on a 41-year-old suspected drunk driver on Highway 98 near Sandestin Boulevard in Miramar Beach, after 11:00 p.m. While he was fulfilling his responsibility by conducting the sobriety tests on the suspected drunk driver Eddy Hardy, a Jeep Cherokee hit both cars, including Hardy’s Ford and the patrol car. Raul Sivas, 34,was driving the Jeep Cherokee. The patrol car was pushed into Hardy and Abreu. They both got injured in the crash.
Trooper Abreu was taken to Sacred Heart Hospital for treatment and Eddy Hardy got serious injuries. He was taken to the Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola by air ambulance. Abreu was released from the hospital on Saturday morning.
Hardy’s record showed that he was involved in an earlier road accident at that same location.
Sivas’s passenger was also present in the Jeep at the time of the accident who also got minor injuries and was taken to Emerald Coast Sacred Heart Hospital for treatment.
Police arrested Raul Sivas and locked him in Walton County Jail. He was charged with OWI and driving with a suspended license.
