Cracking Down in Clewiston
CLEWISTON, FL. – According to Clewiston Police Chief, Don Gutshall, the number of DUI arrests and other traffic citations have continued to remain high last week in Clewiston.
Statistics provided by the Clewiston Police department show a total number of 31 arrests made and 60 traffic citations written.
“We continue to have high numbers of arrests for DUI, suspended Driver’s License, and minor drug possession. On a positive note, it has been another burglary free week,” said Gutshall.
According to Gutshall, the city has a recurring problem of vehicles, especially four-wheelers on Okeechobee Boulevard. They increase during the overnight hours, leading to an increased number of arrests and citations for traffic violations. “The noise is highly disruptive to the neighborhood, and we are concerned for the rider’s safety as well. We have not yet been able to corral them, but are working on a ‘posse’ plan,” he said.
A detailed look at the last week’s police activity shows that a total of 934 commercial / residential security checks were carried out and 514 complaints were investigated.
As a result of these investigations, 31 drivers were arrested and 60 traffic citations were issued.
Last week’s police activity also shows 1 city ordinance violation issued, 47 red light violations, 2 traffic accidents investigated, 16 alarms responded to and 78 merchant escorts provided.
